Fell on a Black Day

Do not sway and always remember the 17th of May!  

That day was a day of mixed emotions as I woke up at 7:30am to the news that one of my all time favorite musicians had passed away.  Back in the 90's, I was very much into the grunge sound with my small group of eclectic friends!  We would spend hours listening to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Alice In Chains, MotherLoveBone, Mad Seasons, Mudhoney, Brad, Satchel and more!  Our days would be spent searching the Record/CD stores around St Mark's Place for that distinctive Seattle sound!  We wore plaid shirts, torn up jean shorts to get a sense of inclusion and even bought $50 guitars.  It was an amazing time as I would become more in tune with my emotions and found my escape through the music!

Then in 2001, I became subservient to the tonalities of Audioslave!  Once again I fell in love with the sound of Chris Cornell and Rage against the Machine.  The mix of Morello's guitar and Chris Cornell's melancholic lyric would once again touch us all with songs like "I am a Highway", "Shadow of the Sun, "Be Yourself", and "Like a Stone"!  As the decade progressed, Cornell released a solo album with Timbaland called Scream!!! I happen to love the fact that he wasn't afraid to mix his lyrics with the rhythms of Timbaland but he caught a lot of slack for doing that one! I applauded him for doing something different!

So much can be said about his music and how it touched so many lives.  I for one was shocked to hear the news as I was just listening to "Like a Stone" on that past Saturday with my cousin J!  It made me think of those lyrics and how he was waiting for death, like a stone!

You will be greatly missed, from this world to the next, rest in peace...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

Everyday is a day of beauty and wonder for we do not know what the day will bring.  It can bring us all shades of emotions but most important, it can bring us joy and  happiness!

Today is one of those days that brings us all love, happiness and appreciation for all the mothers out there who bring us our sonrisas!
To my Mom, love you  and my sisters who are all mom's in my eyes-without them, I am nothing!

This day will be a day I will not forget for it has had an impact on me that will always be there! Although I am being a bit vague, it just makes me want to write more on this blog and really get down to the nitty gritty of it all and share more of my art. My art is what I know! Besides my amazing family, my art is who I am and is what I can share with the world as I am a creative soul! Although, most of my work is for the toy industry, I want to reach out to other forms of art and explore! I hope to share more with you all out there, hopefully connect with more creatives, inspire other artist and give back to the one that watches us all!

So I got to meet up with an old friend from my Art Asylum days a couple of weeks ago. He is an amazing artist named Uriel Caton and I was happy to hear that he loved my All New X-men Minimates artwork I did for a Minimates exhibit a few years ago. Uriel worked with me back in the day during the inception of the little block fellows that Diamond Select has kept going after so many years and he still works on them to this day. It was cool remising as well and look forward to seeing his work posted hopefully in the near future!

Hello Internet! I'm back on my art page and going to start promoting more of my work! Hope you guys can join me as I am gonna blog about work and learning to become a better artist. I am going to dive deep into learning 3d programs and hopefully buying a new 3D printer by years end! Come and join me on my journey of self discovery and finding out what type of artist I truly am! Jason invited me to do a custom figure for his Art+Action=Obama show back in October. I also worked on the packaging for the Obama and McCain figure. One of the main design elements was inspired from Shepard Fairey's iconic poster and that inspired me to do the "Iconic" custom figure. Jason decided to do a limited run, with Fairey's blessing, I painted another figure which would be the paintmaster for a this limted run. This custom is also closer to Fairey's original design. Keep checking the link to see when they go on sale!

Keeping my hand loose, decided to do some drawings on Cheetara.  A few years ago, I almost had the opportunity to re-design the Thundercats.  Unfortunately, it didn't happen but I proceeded to do designs on my own. Couldn't find them so I drew this instead.

Well, its going to be a great year and here I am again...decided to start this blog thing going again and keep track of progress on our projects.  We have a few things in the works, one of them being a podcast/vidcast surrounding creatives in the toy world.  I don't really want to limit it to that, but that is where we're starting.  Its called Art@Play and you can check it out on our website www.storyboxink.com.  I want to thank Erick for being so patient and also being our first interview for this on going project! 

We are also luanching out first IP under the Storybox Ink banner called "Chuki and Friends" www.chukiandfriends.com -a project that has evolved for the last few years.
